Memory Days will be here before we know it, and the committees working on events for the Memorial Day celebration are getting ready for the big weekend.

This includes the Grayson Area Chamber of Commerce’s Mental Health Matters 5K Run & Walk.

Those who want to participate in that event can register right up until the day of the race, on the morning of May 28, at a cost of $25. But if you want to pre-register, you can do so up through May 20 and save yourself $5 while also locking in your guarantee of a t-shirt in your size. Those who register after May 20 not only pay full price instead of the discounted $20 rate, but t-shirts will only be available to those registrants on a “first-come, first-served” basis.

Registration will run through 8 a.m. the morning of the race, with the run kicking off at 8:30 a.m. from the gazebo on Main Street.

For more information or to register, you can call (606)694-1971.

The Memory Days parade is later that day, at 1 p.m. with performances on the WGOH stage from Evergreen, The Chris Feller Band, Kaleb Mullins & Witness, Shelby Lore, The Shane Runion Band, The Return, The Dustin Burchett Band, and From the Hills.

The following day, Sunday, is the day of the Kiwanis Jeep Show. That competition, from 1 – 4 p.m. in front of Grayson Sporting Goods on Main Street, has a $25 registration fee. There will be free gifts available to the first 60 registrants and winners will take home custom trophies created from recycled pistons by welders in the local trade unions.

Those interested in registering, or more information, can contact Willis Johnson at (606)225-6359 or Stephanie Kidd at (606)207-6774.

The Jeep Show is co-sponsored by Pure Country Automotive, IKORCC Carpenter’s and Millwright’s Union, and Carters Auto Parts. Funds from the show will go towards the purchase of inclusive playground equipment at the Grayson Sports Park.

Sunday is also the day for bluegrass music in Grayson, with performances by Hammertowne, Don Rigsby & The Fly By Knights, and Sideline.

We will provide more information, updates, and a complete schedule as the event approaches.
