Carter County bus driver arrested on indecency charges

Staff Report
Carter County Times

The Carter County School District released a statement last week noting they had “been made aware of an arrest involving a school bus driver.”
“As information is being released, the district is closely monitoring the situation,” the statement continued. “The Carter County School District holds the safety and well-being of students as our top priority. The district will take immediate and appropriate action as necessary.”

While the district hasn’t released any further statements, a source has confirmed that the bus driver in question is 39-year-old Darrin Ray Rose.

Rose – who was being housed in the Boyd County Detention Center, but is no longer listed as an inmate there – was arrested on June 15 by the Ashland Police Department on charges of distributing obscene matter to minors under 12, and possession of material portraying sexual performance by minors under 12.

If convicted, the charge of distribution of obscene material would be a Class A misdemeanor, as it is Rose’s first offense, carrying a sentence of up to one year. The charge of possession of material portraying minors under 12 would be a Class C Felony, carrying a prison term of five to ten years.

The charges listed for the arrest are charges only, and do not represent an indictment or conviction. All individuals charged with a crime are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
