Authorities have completed their search of a Carter County property where they were looking for any signs of a missing infant – but what they found, if anything, still isn’t clear. According to various media reports and press releases Kentucky State Police helped Huntington Police and the FBI to serve a warrant on a property near Olive Hill owned by Shannon Overstreet, the father of the missing child. The search team drained and sifted the debris from a pond on the property as part of the search, but they had not released any information on the results of that search at press time.
The child, three-month-old Angel Overstreet, is believed to have been missing since around May 8. That’s when Overstreet claims he handed the child over to West Virginia Child Protective Services (CPS).
CPS contacted the Huntington Police on May 24, explaining when they visited Overstreet to check on the child as part of a custody dispute he claimed he had turned her over to CPS agents more than two weeks prior. CPS, however, said they had no evidence or documentation of Overstreet surrendering the child to them.
Overstreet is currently housed in the Cabell County Jail on an unrelated assault charge. While police say he has not been named as a suspect in his daughter’s disappearance, he has not been eliminated as a suspect either.
Kentucky State Police were contacted and declined to comment on this story. Representatives with the Huntington PD were unavailable for comment when contacted. We were also unable to contact anyone with the local FBI office for comment.
Angel Overstreet is three months old. She has blue eyes, dark hair with a reddish tint, and a strawberry shaped birthmark on the back of her neck.
