The Raiders tennis teams each added another win to their season on Saturday. The East Carter boys are now 3 – 3 and the girls 5 – 1 after facing Rose Hill at the Ashland Tennis Center courts over the weekend.
The girls won 5-4, breaking even at 3-3 in singles, but winning 2-1 in doubles for the Lady Raiders victory.
Maria Hayes beat Lakin Dearfield in singles action, by default, on an injury. Hayes was up 3-0 over Dearfield when Dearfield hurt her knee and had to default the match. The Lady Raiders’ Emma Moudy beat Eliza Crawford 8-3 and Bella Poskas defeated Hallie Baride 8-2 to give the ladies their 3-3 in singles action. Bellamee Sparks, Delayne Sparks, and Abi Justus took home wins for Rose Hill over Kaitlyn Conley, Aliya Lewis and Audrey Tackett.
Moudy’s dominance in singles action didn’t translate to doubles. She and Lewis lost to Bellamee and Delayne Sparks, 8-6.
Hayes showed her singles win wasn’t down to luck, though, pairing with Conley to take down Baride and Crawford, 6-0. Tackett and Poskas also took down their opponents in six, beating Justus and Sturgill 6-0.
On the boys side it was a complete blow out, with the Raiders winning 5-0 after three singles and two doubles matches.
East Carter’s Tanner Osborne beat Rose Hill’s Davsontay Rios 8-0. Wilson Tomaselli beat Andrew Woods 8-2. And Lane Moudy came out over Hanze Lucas with an 8-3 showing.
In doubles action Tomaselli and Osborne beat Rios and Woods 6-1. Moudy and Harris let their opponents – Woods and Lucas – have one too before finishing 6-1 as well.
The Raiders played again on Tuesday, against Boyd County, scores not available at press time, and will play again on Friday against West Carter at the East Carter Middle School courts.
