East Carter girls 9-1 after Magoffin/Rowan wins: Boys win against Magoffin, lose to Rowan

The East Carter Lady Raiders Tennis team is now 9-1, after beating Magoffin County 9-0 in singles and doubles action last Friday, and beating Rowan County 1-0 in singles competition. 

The East Carter boys, however, lost in singles competition against Rowan, 4-0 after two wins against Magoffin, for a season record of 6-4. 

In singles action against Magoffin County, East Carter’s Maria Hayes beat Magoffin’s Riley Meadows 6-0, Aliya Lewis beat McKenna Caudill 6-2, Emma Moudy beat Lakin Howard 6-0, Kaitlyn Conley defeated Gracie Rudd 6-0, and it was Andrea Ferguson over Candice Cole 6-4 and Mary Sherrard over Abby Holbrook 7-5, to give East Carter six of their nine wins over Magoffin on Friday. 

In doubles competition Moudy and Lewis beat Meadows and Caudill 6-2, Hayes and Conley beat Howard and Rudd 6-0, and Tackett and Poskas triumphed over Cole and Holbrook 6-2 to secure the Lady Raiders 9-0 win. 

In boys singles competition Lane Moudy beat Magoffin’s Colton Valandingham 6-4, and Brant Harris beat Trey Rudd 6-1, to give the boys their sixth win of the season. 

When they faced off against Rowan County, though, the East Carter boys lost all four of their singles matches. Tanner Osborne lost to Chris Gray 8-1. Wilson Tomasellis was defeated by Collin Turek in an 8-2 match. Layne Moudy lost to Jacob Campbell 6-4. And Brant Harris was beaten by Cooper Turek 6-4. 

The girls only had a single match against Rowan County, taking home the win when East’s Kaitlyn Conley beat Rowan’s Natalie Northcutt 8-5.
