Ambulance service board discusses budget

Service responded to nearly 500 calls in the May

The Carter County Emergency Ambulance Service Board met in a regular session last week to discuss the business of the ambulance service. On the agenda were the executive director’s report, financial reports, payroll, and current income and expenses.

The ambulance service board typically bills calls under certain headings, and the board discussed the number of overall calls and the breakdown into types of calls for the previous month. The service had a total of 459 calls for the month of May for instance, and these were broken down into 256 advanced life support (ALS) calls, 133 basic life support (BLS) calls, 12 lift assist calls, and 58 dry runs. Out of these 459 calls, the numbers yielded 389 calls that were billable under 911.

A further breakdown of the calls in question for the month of May listed 384 calls that necessitated transport. Other defining categories were 35 calls where treatment was refused, two calls of evaluated/no treatment, 17 calls that were cancelled, two DOA calls, 72 calls that were assists/standby, and 24 treat and release, for a total of 537 that ultimately resulted in 408 billable calls.

On the financial portion of the meeting, May credit contracts were at $2,997.30, with contract adjustment showing $3,211.38. Insurance credits were $25,672.28, with insurance adjustments showing $9,091.99. Medicaid credits were reported at $27,497.93, with Medicaid adjustments of $49,319.01. Medicare credits were reported at $121,918.36, with adjustments at $133,327.93. Private credits were reported at $10,487.30. For the month of May, 2024, the billing company received $88,573.17 in payments and had $205,134.85 in mandatory adjustments.
