Bluegrass Bible Beat: Jack Around And Find Out!

Remember Judah’s king Zedekiah? He tempted and jacked around with God. How? Zedekiah did much evil in God’s sight; he ignored, chained, and jailed God’s prophet. (Jeremiah 32:2). But not even kings escape justice when they jack around with God. That’s why God said, “Zedekiah… shall not escape.” (Jeremiah 32:4). Then, God showed Zedekiah He means all He says, and what He does to folks who jack around with Him.

God showed Zedekiah by sending Nebuchadnezzar, who destroyed Zedekiah’s army. (II Kings 25:4-5). God wasn’t done. Right before Babylonians gouged-out his eyes, the last thing Zedekiah saw was Babylonians slaughter his sons before his eyes. Then, Nebuchadnezzar blinded, chained, and jailed Zedekiah. Zedekiah died there. (Jeremiah 52:11). Y’all see? God isn’t bashful about showing even kings what happens to folks who jack around with Him. Ain’t no kings in Kentucky. So, we’d best not be jacking around with God, lest we end-up like Zedekiah.

Those who jack around with God today, God will show them just like He showed Zedekiah. Why? Because in the millennia since Zedekiah tempted and jacked around with God, God hasn’t changed – that’s why. (Malachi 3:6). What happened to Zedekiah will happen to anyone today foolish enough to jack around with God. Why? Because He’s no respecter of persons (Romans 2:11). Y’all need to get this straight right now: God means what He says, “Thou shalt not tempt the LORD thy God.” (Deuteronomy 6:16).

What must we do to avoid tempting and jacking around with God? We must “do justly, love mercy, and walk humbly with God.” (Micah 6:8). Jesus personalized Micah 6:8, identifying those who make heaven as those who “do the will of My Father.” (Matthew 7:21). To guide us, Jesus unfolded heaven’s roadmap in His Sermon On The Mount. (Matthew 5:48) (“Be ye therefore perfect.”). But today, millions ignore heaven’s roadmap because, like Zedekiah, they’re jacking around with God, and most don’t even know it because they’re lying to themselves.

What do folks do today that jack around with God and risk eternity by tempting God? Answer: They do what countless pretending Christians do today. They run to church, but ignore heaven’s roadmap that Christ Himself unfolded to us. They drop a buck or two in the plate and then go their own way six days a week; not loving others, not witnessing for Christ, and not living their lives by His every Word. (Matthew 4:4). These folks ain’t Bible doers. They’re just Bible hearers.

These Bible hearers are lying to, and fooling, themselves (James 1:22). Truth is, they’re jacking around with God, just like Zedekiah did. And just like Zedekiah, these Bible hearers are going to find out, the hard way that God, He don’t jack around. God means what He says: “Be ye doers of the Word.” (James 1:22). So, unless we want to end-up like Zedekiah, we best stop jackin’ around with God and start doin’ all His Word – or else. (Matthew 7:21).
