Joyful Noise: The soul path

By Pastor Naomi Mitchell

For Carter County Times

Do you feel lost, out of sorts, confused, tired and weary? Have you gotten off the old beaten path?

John 14:6, Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life.” He said, “no one comes to the Father except through me.”  When Jesus said, “He is the way” that means Jesus is the sole path to God and to eternal life. Being washed in the Blood of Jesus, following him and having a trusting relationship with him is the only way to be reconciled to God. Jesus in not just one option among many; Jesus is the only way, not just a way. Believing in Jesus is the path to knowing God and to those who follow him it will lead to a life with God. Let him be the “soul” path for your life.

The only way to know Jesus is to meet with him every day. You meet with him in the scriptures. The scriptures no longer feel distant as they start to breathe, start to speak, not just about history, but about your heart.

The word will come alive as you begin to see Jesus in every page. It is not about checking a box, about reading through the Bible but to let the Bible get through to you. Hebrews 4:12 says, “For the Word of God is living, it’s active, sharper than any two-edged sword, it judges the thoughts and the intents, the attitudes of the heart.”

The Word of God will cause you to search yourself, it will reveal hidden sins in your life. It will humble you to seek Jesus as the way, the truth and the life, not out of guilt, but because truth has pierced your heart.

The truth of Jesus found in the pages of the Bible stirred change among many kings, many businessmen, many common folks over centuries. It still carries the same holy weight right now not to condemn you but to call you higher – to surrender your heart – to get back on the plain path. Like being on the potter’s wheel, let his way shift you, let it shape you, let it refine you. You weren’t made to simply continue; you were made to be transformed from the inside out.

You are meeting with a living God. The Bible is not a cold document bound by history. It is a door into divine fellowship, a sacred space where the Spirit of God draws near. Every time you open the pages with a heart willing to listen, you are stepping into a conversation with the one who formed you!

Psalm 119:130 says, “the unfolding of   your word gives light, it gives understanding to the simple.”  The word opens and so does your spirit to know the way, the path of Jesus. Suddenly, what looks like black ink on white paper becomes the meeting place between heaven and your heart! Meet Jesus in the word each day. Your soul will begin to rise. The Bible says to draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Open his word with expectancy. When you open the Bible, you are not just reading about God, you are meeting with him, sitting with him, having a conversation with him. You bring your weakness and are met with his strength. Draw near to God and he will draw near to you. Right here and now in the pages of the word of God, get back on the old path. You will find his mercies are new every morning. Let his mercy rewrite your life every day!

Amen! So be it!
