At the 47th annual Carter High School reunion, former students came together at Carter Caves Lodge Saturday evening to celebrate and be together once again.

The event is coordinated by Camila Haney, who has been the reunion coordinator since 1988.

“This event is just for our friends and neighbors who went to Carter High School and a time for us all to get to see one another again,” said Haney.

She noted how grateful they were to get to spend this time together with their old classmates as they don’t often get to see some of them.

Once everyone had checked in and they found their seat, prayer was said over the food, and they all ate together; enjoying the opportunity to talk to old classmates and their friends and families.

After dinner, they started with some reunion traditions they have like the Zane Roe necktie award. This tradition started in 1995 when Roe came to the reunion wearing a necktie that someone else liked, so Roe gave him the necktie right there. Following that sweet gesture, they decided to frame the necktie and now, every year, it is passed down to a new owner.

They also acknowledged their classmates who had passed within the last year with a moment of silence; as well as recognizing their classmates and guests who have served.in the armed forces.

One of the final events of the night was a right-left story game. Each table had at least two gifts to pass around whenever the story said right or left. Haney started to read the story and the game began. The room filled with laughs and smiles as everyone tried to focus on the story, and the game, until it stopped and those with the gift won.

The last event of the night was singing, by Leo Roe and friends. The room filled with the sound of guitars and voices as everyone sang together before saying their goodbyes to one another. The next Carter High School reunion is planned to be on July 12, 2025.
