Carter County Ambulance executive director Rick Loperfido gave the board his final report during their regular December meeting.
Loperfido told the board that there were currently no major truck issues, and “all units are mostly in good running order.”
He said he was also still working with FEMA, at that time, to make certain the ambulance service would still be receiving the AFG funding to purchase a new ambulance, sometime during the month of January.
The board then discussed interviews for the current opening for a chief financial officer. The board said they had thoroughly examined all resumes and would choose who they would call in for interviews after Christmas. They hoped to have the candidates narrowed down to a final choice by the new year.
The board also made the decision not to hire an executive director at the present time. Instead, they will readvertise the position during the month of January, and hopefully attract more candidates. The board said they would continue to consider any candidates who had already applied along with any who applied during the extension period.
Until they choose the new executive director, the board moved to hire an interim director to fill the vacancy beginning January 1. The board voted to make an offer to paramedic Tim Woods, of Ashland, to serve in that interim role until a permanent replacement could be hired.
Loperfido said that although his retirement date was set for December 31, and his executive director duties would end on that date, he had agreed to continue assisting the new interim director – and possibly the new executive director – with the transition “however I’m needed.”
In the financial report, current finance officer Valerie Nolan noted that income in November was down by $114,501.36 from what they had budgeted for the month, but was still $92,223.81 more than the same period in the previous year.
Expenses for the month were $276,877.65 under budget, and $149,473.37 less than the same month last year.
Payroll took the lion’s share of the YTD income, Nolan noted, with 57.84% of the money going to pay employees. But despite this, and the fact that payroll was more than $20,000 higher than the same period last year, the number still came in $156,420.27 under budget for the month.
