Five arrested in Grayson murder

 Grayson police responded last Friday evening to a complaint at a residence on South View Court regarding an incident that resulted in the death of a Carter County man, John Waggoner, age 25. 

Police received the call at approximately 10 p.m. and, upon arriving to investigate, took five individuals into custody on charges related to the incident. Arrested and charged in connection with the death were Jacob Ruth, 42, Roger Ratcliff, 70, and Joseph Ratcliff, 19, all of Grayson, and William Smith, 43, of Morehead. Ruth, Ratcliff, Ratcliff and Smith were charged with murder. 

The fifth individual, Brenda Clevenger, 62, of Grayson, was arrested and charged with complicity to commit murder. 

All five are currently lodged in the Carter County Detention Center. 

Grayson police responded to calls from the Carter County Times, noting that the investigation is ongoing and no further information was being released at this time. We will continue to follow this story as it develops and provide more information as it becomes available.
