The Carter County Fiscal Court held a special meeting on Monday, and plans to hold another tomorrow (Thursday) to approve additional items.

Monday’s meeting was called primarily to approve payment for a new excavator which will be used to maintain county roads and for other county projects. Purchase of the excavator, a John Deere 85 for $132,000, with the purchase price including a four-year warranty, was approved in a previous meeting on May 20. The court was called to special session to approve sending the payment after the excavator had been delivered.

The court also discussed an additional purchase of a bush hog attachment for the excavator, but the current estimate for the attachment ($18,000) was considered to be excessive. The court discussed it and determined that a price range of between twelve and fourteen thousand dollars would be preferred. A decision was made to research prices from other suppliers, and to find an acceptable alternative if possible. Bush Hog attachments allow for removing heavier undergrowth than a less heavy-duty mowing apparatus.

In other business the court voted to approve claims and transfers by unanimous vote of the attending magistrates, two being absent. Minutes were read and accepted, and court adjourned after scheduling an additional special meeting on June 27 at 6 pm.
