Grayson reminds organizations of event permits

Staff Report
Carter County Times

The city of Grayson and Grayson Emergency Management would like to remind any school or public organization that the city has an ordinance requiring groups request a special event permit when planning any event that involves the use of city streets, city parks, or any city facility that may require the notification of the police, fire, street, or emergency management departments.

Permits are reviewed by emergency management and passed to the appropriate city agency or agencies.

The purpose of the permit, emergency management director Roger Dunfee explained, is to provide relevant departments with contact information of the event organizers, as well as to provide them with the details of the event – including date, time, and location where the event will take place.

While there are no prohibitions on types of events, and the city does not reject any permit requests, the city does reserve the right to cancel an event in the case of dangerous weather conditions, or other situations that might affect the potential safety of participants.

The city of Grayson, he added, supports activities and events that help draw attention to the many organizations who conduct them.

Permits can be picked up at the city building, and should be returned there at least a week before the scheduled event.

While the city can approve the closure of city streets for events, if you wish to close a portion of a state highway for your event, you must contact the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet District Nine for permission.
