Annie Francis, a local attorney with Willis Law Office specializing in family law, has been recognized by Safe Harbor of Northeast Kentucky for her work to benefit women and children suffering under the spectre of domestic violence.

The domestic violence shelter and outreach facility presented their annual 13th Annual Cornerstone Awards during a fundraiser luncheon last month, said Ann Perkins, Safe Harbor’s executive director. In addition to Francis, other honorees included Kentucky Power, Toyota of Ashland, Summit RV, Susan Hunt and Community Hospice, and the Kentucky Colonels. Perkins said the awards honor individuals who have been instrumental to the organization’s growth over the past 40 years.

ā€œThese individuals were honored for their dedication and service to help the families at Safe Harbor,ā€ Perkins said.

Safe Harbor serves domestic violence victims across the FIVCO area of Carter, Elliott, Boyd, Greenup, and Lawrence counties. Over the past 40 years, Safe Harbor has provided a safe haven for more than 20,000 women, children, and men. Over the past few years, the organization has ā€œconsistently housed more than double the number of women and childrenā€ compared to those they have in previous years, the organization said in a release.

Safe Harbor is currently engaged in their 1,000 Women (and Men) fundraising campaign. The campaign asks residents of the five counties served by Safe Harbor to make a financial pledge to help continue vital services, such as expanded substance abuse education and care for residents, and enhanced children’s programs and counseling. Funds raised through the campaign will also assist with continued renovation work across Safe Harbor’s campus. Pledges may be in the form of a one-time gift, or may be spread out over a period of years, Perkins explained.
