A Carter County man was struck and hit by a motor vehicle while walking in the Soldier area early Friday morning, resulting in his death. According to Jeremy Rodgers, with the Olive Hill Fire Department, a pedestrian was struck by a commuter sometime around 6 a.m. Rescue units responding to the scene reported that the pedestrian was dead on arrival.
Carter County Coroner William Waddell later identified the deceased as Anthony Conn, age 30, of Olive Hill, the son of Richard and Mildred Conn.
There was no word on the condition of the driver of the vehicle, which went off-road and was upended over the bank in the creek along Route 174.
The accident closed traffic along 174 between Macabee Creek Road and Dry Branch Road (SR 1626) for several hours Friday morning as Kentucky State Police worked to investigate the accident scene.
The accident is being investigated by Kentucky State Police Post 14, out of Ashland, but no additional information was available at press time.
