FLEMINGSBURG, Ky.– A second culvert needs replaced on US 60 near Upper Tygart in Carter County, and the highway will be closed again this Thursday just east of the Rowan-Carter county line.
Beginning about 8 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 10, crews will close US 60 between Willow Drive and Jesse Hollow Road (milepoints 1.5 to 1.7), which is west of Olive Hill and about two miles east of the Rowan County line. The road will remain closed through 4:30 p.m. or until work to replace a dilapidated culvert under the highway is complete.
Local traffic may access homes and businesses up to the work site from either direction but will not be able to pass that point as the road will be cut in half. All thru traffic between Olive Hill and Rowan County should detour using KY 174 through Lawton and Soldier in Carter County and Haldeman in Rowan County.
Electronic message boards have been placed in advance to warn travelers. All motorists should make plans to detour that day or seek alternate routes.
The culvert replacement is much-needed work to protect the safety of US 60 and its users, and is being done now to avoid a road closure when school is in session.
Road work schedules may be adjusted if inclement weather or other unforeseen delays occur. Motorists are asked to heed all warning signs, slow down in work zones and remain aware of workers and construction equipment when traveling.
