Carmel Baker

1933-2025

Carmel Baker, age 92, passed away Monday, June 23, 2025 at his residence in Olive Hill, Kentucky surrounded by his loving family.

He was born May 1, 1933 in Carter County, Kentucky a son of the late John Baker and Martha Burton Baker.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his loving wife of forty-three years, Janice Marie Rutherford Baker; one daughter, Judith Ann Esswein; one brother, John Baker Jr.; five sisters, Edna Kiser, Elsie Hedge, Irma Maddix, Opal Hedge and an infant sister.

Carmel attended First Christian Church. He was a lifelong farmer and truck driver. He enjoyed working, trading cattle, playing cards and having cookouts with his family.

He is survived by one son, James Allen Baker of Olive Hill, Kentucky, one daughter, Candie (Fran) Marie Baker of Olive Hill, Kentucky; son-in-law, Ed Esswein of Beaufort, South Carolina; five grandchildren, Jennifer Bryan, Angie (Mike) Esswein, Jimmy (Kristian) Baker, Bobby (Jackie) Esswein, and Annie Baker; seven great grandchildren, Caitlin (Jake) Burton, Madalynn Baker, Ryan Niedzialkowski, Alyssa Baker, Joshua Bryan, Jonathan Baker and Colin Niedzialkowski; three great great grandchildren; Braxton, Jackson and Dayton; along with many other family and friends that will sadly miss him.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m., Saturday, June 28, 2025, at Globe Funeral Chapel, 17277 West US. Hwy 60, Olive Hill, Kentucky, with Brother Mark Ayers and Grandson Jimmy Baker officiating. Burial will follow in Hedge Cemetery, in Olive Hill, Kentucky.

Friends may visit from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Friday, June 27, 2025 and after 9 a.m., Saturday, June 28, 2025 until the service hour at Globe Funeral Chapel.

Jimmy Baker, Bobby Esswein, Ed Esswein, Jonathan Baker, Ryan Niedzialkowski, Mike Kopco, Joshua Bryan and T.J. Trujillo will serve as pallbearers.

James Allen Baker, Colin Niedzialkowski, Mike Walker, Richard Stallard , Dwight Rayburn, Junior Webb and Roy D. Porter will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Globe Funeral Chapel is honored to serve the family of Carmel Baker.
