Donald Lee “Donnie” Parker, age 82, of Grahn, Kentucky, went home to be with the Lord Thursday morning, July 24, 2025, surrounded by his daughters and their husbands, at Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland, Kentucky.
Donnie was born September 3, 1942, in Grahn, Kentucky, a son of the late John Leslie and Leona Whitt Parker.
Brother Donnie faithfully and quietly served the Grahn Hill Freewill Baptist Church since it was founded. He never asked for and rarely accepted any recognition. Since his sickness, the magnitude of his service to the church has become evident. His character and integrity set the standard for service in the church. Anyone who knew Brother Donnie associated him with faithfulness to the Lord, his family, and the church.
Donnie proudly served his country in the National Guards for approx 6 years and retired from Ashland Oil, Inc., after over twenty-five years of service, where he was a carpenter. After retiring, he served his community through the Grahn School Community Center and Meals on Wheels of Olive Hill, Kentucky.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 47 years, Sue Ann “Susie Sturgill Parker; three brothers, Bobby Parker, Eulan Parker, Gary Parker and two sisters, Marcella Leadingham, Patricia Broughton.
Donnie is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Glenda (Clifford, “Tippy”) Price, Bethany (Jeremy Chad) Lowery; 7 grandchildren, Laken Price, Landon (Taylor) Price, Micah Lowery, Dakota (Kourtney) Lowery, Isaac Parker Donehue, Ethan (Haley) Lowery, Brianna Lowery; 1 great-grandson, Atticus Luke Lowery; three sisters-in-law, Frances Parker, Treva Barker, and Loretta Sturgill, along with many nieces, nephews, family and friends who will sadly miss him.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m., Sunday, July 27, 2025, at Grahn Hill Freewill Baptist Church, 4283 Grahn Road, Grahn, Kentucky, with Brother Chad Lowery, Brother Clifford “Tippy” Price, and Brother Jimmy Barker officiating. Burial will follow in the Biggs Hill Cemetery, in Olive Hill, Kentucky.
Friends may visit from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m., Saturday, July 26, 2025, at Globe Funeral Chapel, 17277 West US Hwy 60, Olive Hill, Kentucky, and after 12 noon, Sunday, July 27, 2025, until the service hour at Grahn Hill Freewill Baptist Church.
Steven Parker, Shannon Parker, John Mackie Leadingham, Derek Broughton, Jason James, Brent Valandingham, Chris Valandingham will serve as pallbearers.
Donnie’s grandsons will serve as honorary pallbearers.
