West Carter lost their final game of regular season play to the Russell Red Devils on the road last Friday. The 14-28 loss gives the Comets a regular season record of seven wins, three losses, as they move into the post-season.
Despite the loss, the Comets will move on into the Class 2A Finals, with a game against Bath County at home on Friday, at 7:30 p.m.
The Comets beat the Wildcats handily in their previous matchup, 49-15, but the Bath County team has six victories on the season and might just be looking for payback for West Carter adding a number to their loss column.
West Carter quarterback Eli Estepp connected on one touchdown pass against Russell, connecting with running back Cole Crampton to score and passing for a total of 110 yards.
Crampton scored the Comets’ other touchdown on the night as well, on a running play, and rushing for a total of 96 yards. Crampton also received for 48 yards of Estepp’s 110 yard passing total. Blake McGlone received for 33 yards and Jackson Bond for 29 yards.
Kaden Wilson scored the team’s only points after touchdown, on a two-point conversion.
On defense Bradyn Flener had one fumble recovery. Preston Nauman led in tackles with 13 total (two solo and 11 assisted), followed by Neil Lusher with 11 (two and nine), Isaac Bond with 10 (three solo, seven assists), Kaden Wilson with nine (three and six), Blake McGlone with eight (three and five), Jake Barker and Gavin Adams with seven each (two solo and five assists each), Conner Greene with five (one and four), Flener with four (one and three), Samuel Rayburn with three assists, Brent King with two (one each), and Timothy Fields, Jackson Bond, Noah Orcutt, and Jackson Kidwell with one assisted tackle each.
