Carter County TimesThe Grayson Youth Soccer Association hasn’t played a game in over a year.
“The last time we were able to play was Fall 2019, due to COVID,” explained Aimie Walker, president of the league.
But they’re ready to come back this year, with games expected to begin April 10 – though flooding related delays may impact that start date.
Walker said the league will see several “exciting changes” this year as well.
“Every age group will have licensed and experienced coaches working with them,” Walker said. “This is the first time we have ever had this opportunity. Quinn Huddle and Tyler Walker are going to be directing the coaching staff and will be in charge of the curriculum for practices.”
In addition, she explained, each age group will practice together. This way they will all be learning the same skills from the same coaches.
“This will allow equal opportunity for development across the entire age group,” she said. “This is going to be a great learning experience for every child.”
Registration is open now, online at https://go.teamsnap.com/forms/258470, through March 12. Cost is $40 per child for the under four age group, and $60 per child for the U6 through U12 age groups. A $5 multi-child discount is also available. These costs include full uniforms for all children.
Age groups are divided into an under age four (U4) group, for children born between January 1, 2017 and December 31, 2018, U6 for those born from January 1, 2015 to December 31, 2016, U8 for January 1, 2013 to December 31, 2014, U10 for January 1, 2011 to December 31, 2012, and U12 for January 1, 2009 to December 31, 2010.
Practices will be on Mondays for U8 and U10 age groups, from 5:30 – 6:45 p.m. The U6 and U12 age groups will practice from 5:30 – 6:45 p.m. on Thursdays. The U4 group with practice from 5:30 – 6:15 p.m. on Tuesdays.
With the exception of U4, all games will be played on Saturday.
You don’t have to live in Grayson to sign your children up either.
“Players from surrounding areas are more than welcome to join our league,” Walker said.
For more information you can find the league on Facebook at Grayson Youth Soccer Association, or email them at graysonrecsoccer@gmail.com with any questions.
Walker also noted that precautions during the pandemic will remain in place for coaches, players, and spectators.
