Raiders fall to Musketeers: Greenup wins over East Carter by 15

LLOYD – East Carter could not get its shots to fall Friday, March 5, especially in the first half, and fell behind big.

Although the Raiders made a couple of charges in the second half, they were unable to catch up and fell, 68-53.

East Carter’s Connor Goodman hit a three-point basket to open the scoring. Evan Goodman canned a three to close out the first quarter.

Between the threes, East missed 13 consecutive shots and Greenup County scored 17 points for a 17-6 lead.

Treven Tussey made the only East points over the opening five minutes of the second quarter.

A basket by Trenton Hannah finished off a 13-2 run for Greenup County and gave the hosts a 30-8 lead.

Evan Goodman ended the Greenup County run with a three with 2:44 left in the half..

The lead grew to 26 points when Boone Gibson scored the first five points of the third quarter for Greenup County.

Connor Goodman hit a three for East, but a bucket by Hannah left the score at 41-16.

A basket by Connor Goodman started a run for East. Evan Goodman closed out the run by converting a steal into a three-point play to close out a 12-0 run, which cut the lead to 41-28.

Greenup County regrouped. A three by Boone Gibson was followed with two buckets by Hannah and the lead was back to 20.

East scored the final three points of the stanza to make the score 48-31.

The Raiders forced seven Greenup County turnovers in the opening four minutes of the fourth quarter. A steal by Connor Goodman result in a basket by Evan Goodman to get the Raiders within 13 points, 54-41, and resulted in a Greenup County time out with 4:18 to play.

Once again, Greenup County answered the challenge. Carson Wireman scored and Boone Gibson made a pair of foul shots with 2:27 to play.

Evan Goodman scored for East.

After making several bad passes earlier in the quarter, Greenup County (5-14) stalled away most of the final three minutes.

Evan Goodman led East (5-3) with 19 points, while Connor Goodman tallied 12,
