The East Carter Lady Raiders and West Carter Lady Comets went head to head in Saturday’s matchup during the middle school soccer district championship. It was a hard fought match, but in the end it was the Lady Comets who walked away with a 2-0 victory.

The two Carter County teams went head to head during the first half of the game with multiple opportunities and shots placed by both teams. However, both teams had a solid defense, each holding their ground to keep the game scoreless at the half.

The first goal, though, finally came in the second half when the Lady Comets got a corner kick. Beau Blevins, #11, took the corner kick and crossed the ball over where #19, Emmalyn Davis, kicked the ball into the goal resulting in the first goal of the game.

The Lady Raiders tried to come back, attempting to score off of a free kick in the twenty-third minute of the second half. Laney Rice, #1, took the free kick that was tossed around in the goal box but ended up being picked up by the Lady Comets’ keeper, #25 Delaney Stevens.

The girls from West Carter weren’t done yet though, as they brought the ball up the field with a shot from Blevins that ricocheted off the keeper before being kicked into the net by #13 Cam Varney giving the Lady Comets a 2-0 lead.

The Lady Comets were able to hold the East Carter girls off, and keep their lead, to come away with a 2-0 victory, making them District Champs.

“The girls never quit playing hard,” Head coach Aaron Martin said when asked for his thoughts about the game. “They played fast and played smart and made good decisions.”
