On Monday, May 6, the East Carter High School Concert Band traveled to Louisville Male High School to participate in State Large Ensemble Performance Assessment. The band earned the ability to perform at this event by receiving Distinguished ratings from all three judges at the District Large Ensemble Performance Assessment on April 19. The band received a Distinguished and two Proficient ratings from the panel of three judges. This resulted in an overall Proficient rating from the performance. This was the fourth time in program history that the band had participated in this event receiving a similar result in 2018.

“It was a wonderful experience for the students to share the stage with fifteen other bands that are some of the finest in the state of Kentucky,” director Logan Skidmore said. “At both the District and State Assessment performances the group received many fine compliments from both judges and those attending the performance. The students should be proud of the accomplishments they have earned this year. It represents hours of hard work and dedication throughout the entire school year.”

The band performed The Rowan Tree, by Randall D. Standridge, and Bunker Hill, a concert march written by Karl L. King and arranged by James Swearingen.

The panel of judges at the State level included Dr. Tom Caneva from Ball State University; Dr. Scott Tobias from West Virginia University; and Dr. Ken Steinsultz from the University of Evansville. The event is coordinated by Dr. Frederick Speck, from the University of Louisville, with logistical support from Mr. Scott Cooksey the band director at Louisville Male High School.

The Raider Band will have its final performance of the year during the Memory Days Parade on May 25.
