The Energy Future

By Tom Underwood, Executive Director of the Kentucky Propane Education and Research Council.

As we talk about our energy future, there is one opportunity that you may not think about.

Propane is a plentiful, environmentally friendly fuel that is here today.Propane doesn’t have the extreme costs of infrastructure construction as do other energy sources. Propane is portable. It naturally condenses into a liquid when put under pressure, allowing for long range driving or equipment usage with easy refueling. It propels virtually any type of engine with a spark plug.

You may not know it, but virtually everything at Mammoth Cave National Park is powered by propane. From their lawn mowers to their Tour Buses, propane helps keep the park air clean while saving money.

Propane power saves on maintenance. Propane burns so clean that it leaves little to no carbon build up inside an engine. Engines last longer and employees are not exposed to the heavy emissions of some other fuels. It is so clean, there are thousands of propane powered forklifts that are used inside every day. Propane provides power. Propane averages around 105 Octane, meaning it provides more than enough power for working. Today’s vehicles can run on propane. Across Kentucky, commercial vehicles and school buses are switching to clean Propane for both cost savings and to do their part for the environment. Propane is plentiful. North America is the largest producer of propane in the world. In fact, the United States is the leading exporter of Propane, sending shiploads all over the world.

Propane is: Clean; Affordable; and Plentiful. There will be no one energy that helps us protect the environment for the future. Propane and its technology is here now. Come see demonstrations of propane vehicles and learn about the many other uses. On site will be a school bus, a pickup truck, a police cruiser and a zero turn mower…all run by propane.
