The Carter County Farmer’s Market is gearing up for summer with a series of important meetings and training sessions scheduled for March 31st at the new Extension Building.
The day will kick off with an optional Produce Best Practice Training (PBPT) at 5:00 PM. This voluntary food safety training is essential for vendors seeking sampling certificates. Following this, at 6:00 PM, the mandatory Senior Farmer’s Market Nutrition Program (SrFMNP) and WIC training will take place. This training is required for vendors who wish to accept SrFMNP, WIC, and Double Dollar vouchers. All necessary forms and paperwork must be completed and submitted during the meeting. Vendors planning to accept Senior and WIC vouchers should ensure they have an established email address before attending.
An organizational business meeting will follow the training sessions. Key agenda items include the election of officers, market managers, and board of directors. Current known vacant positions up for election include president, Grayson market manager, and directors. The meeting will also set the opening days, hours, and pop-up markets for the season.
Additionally, the Kentucky Department of Agriculture will be at the Extension Office the following day to certify scales. Vendors are encouraged to bring their scales to the meeting for certification and can pick them up after April 2nd.
