Organizers of the county wide play program will be holding auditions this week in Olive Hill and Grayson for their production of The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes.
Auditions will be held tomorrow, Thursday, April 14 in Olive Hill at the Olive Hill Center for Arts and Education, and on Friday, April 15, at the Grayson Gallery and Art Center in Grayson. Both begin at 5 p.m.
Performers age 12 and older who wish to participate are encouraged to prepare their own piece and show up for one of the open auditions.
“We’re seeking community performers to participate in (the play),” explained organizer Caleb Burchett.
He went on to explain that those auditioning for a part should prepare a piece for their audition that highlights their acting and singing skills.
Suggested audition scripts include selections from Romeo and Juliet, as well as Hamilton.
Those who wish to audition should, “feel free to be creative,” he said. But must also be able to memorize and follow a script.
In addition to their prepared pieces, Burchett said, those auditioning will also be asked to cold read selections from The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes.
As noted, there may also be opportunities for singing. So, Burchett added, “If you have any other talents, such as singing, please have that talent prepared.”
Anyone who commits to the production, Burchett said, are committing to five performances – all in Carter County, but at various locations across the county. They must also commit to the rehearsal schedule for the play.
“Rehearsal is a must!” Burchett said, adding that rehearsals will all be held in the evening or on weekends.
