The Olive Hill United Methodist Church will be hosting this year’s community sunrise service this coming Easter Sunday, April 17, at 7 a.m. The service will feature contributions from the congregations of United Methodist, Olive Hill Church of the Nazarene, and First Baptist Church of Olive Hill.
“First Baptist Church pastor Landon Copley will be bringing the message,” explained Tammy Moore, with the United Methodist women’s group.
“The Nazarene Church and Olive Hill United Methodist women will be serving breakfast in the Faith Hall after the service,” she continued. “We hope to see everyone there.”
First Baptist pastor Copley explained the importance of these type of interfaith services, and of building ties between different faith communities in the city and county.
“All across the community, our churches will host their own Easter services this Sunday,” Copley said. “However, the community Easter sunrise service is our churches’ way of saying, even though there are distinct differences among us, we agree on this – Christ is risen! In the end, that makes all the difference.”
Copley finished with a nod to First Corinthians 15:14, “And if Christ be not risen, then is our preaching vain, and your faith is also vain.”
