The Grayson Gallery & Art Center will be changing up their annual February event in celebration of Black History Month with “Peace, Love & Diversity”, an art show and entertainment event set for Friday, February 23 from 6 – 9 p.m. While free to the public, donations at the door and tips for the performers are much appreciated. Artists have submitted pieces in various mediums related to the theme, with most works for sale. Refreshments will be provided by Catering by Sheila Marie and entertainment for the evening will be “The Lady and the Empress”, a tribute program created by Doris A. Fields (aka Lady D, West Virginia’s “First Lady of Soul”) as a one-woman show which presents the life, music, and memories of Blues Legend Bessie Smith.

The evening’s agenda will be adjusted a bit differently for this Final Friday event as this special performance will be one that will be both entertaining and enlightening. Guests will be asked to settle in quietly for the show at approximately 6:30 p.m. when Lady D and her musicians take the GGAC Stage. The monthly Awards & Announcements portion of the night will take place during the performance intermission and resume shortly thereafter. At that time, four $50 cash (or equivalent) prizes will be handed out for People’s Choice (by popular vote), Pen Lady’s Choice, the Brandon Click Memorial award, and a GGAC Board Choice along with information on what’s coming up at the gallery.

The GGAC is planning their first-ever online “Art Auction” and asking artists to donate work for this online event which will raise funds for the non-profit, 501c3 corporation’s operations and other expenses. Pieces may be dropped off at the opening reception this week and other dates & times to be announced. For information and follow up details, donors may contact gallery President Amanda Grigsby via email: thekypenlady@gmail.com and be sure to look for her on Facebook for her detailed posts concerning this as well. Donations may be tax deductible to the donors as well.

Coming up in March will be the GGAC’s annual “Women in the Arts” show and sale with artwork to be submitted on March 23 and 25 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. An opening reception will take place on March 29.
