Grayson Gallery & Art Center
The Grayson Gallery & Art Center is all decorated for the scary season and ready for their annual Halloween Art Show and Costume Contest. An opening reception for artists and the public is set for the monthly Final Friday event on October 30 from 6 – 9 p.m., serving as a kickoff to Explore Grayson’s Octoberfest. While the gallery event is free to visitors, donations at the door and tips for the musicians are encouraged and very much appreciated.
Nearly 50 original pieces, which fit the Halloween theme and represent a multitude of mediums, will be on display from opening night through mid-November and by appointment. Prior to the Awards & Announcements portion of the evening, at around 7:30 p.m., visitors will be able to vote for their favorite piece for one of the four awards; People’s Choice, which is awarded by popular vote. The other three winning pieces will be chosen as follows; The Pen Lady Award, GGAC Board Choice and the Brandon Click Art Memorial. Each of the winners will receive a blue ribbon, as well as a $50 prize.
Towards the end of the mid-evening break, three prizes – Most Original, Scariest, and Best of the Bad – will be handed out to the Costume Contest winners.
ln addition, a special display area will showcase the artwork-entries from local youth and winners of the Gibbs Hardware Art Contest, featuring their selected winners as follows: First Place – Oliver, 606 Bar & Grill/Casey’s Lanes; Second Place – Collin, Johnny’s Pizza and Third Place – Ellie, The Rustic Farm Truck. Note that these works are not eligible for the monthly GGAC awards.
Live music will be provided by the From the Hills band, back on the GGAC Stage for another evening of classic rock entertainment with musicians Bill Byerley, Jamie Cain, Andy Mayo, and Jason Webb.
Coming up in November, the GGAC will wrap up their year’s monthly events with art on display open to all subjects and mediums. This show, “Colorful Friday’s Evening with the Blues”, will serve as a fundraiser for the Huntington Blues Society, featuring entertainment by the HBS Allstar Band. Donations will help the winner of their annual Blues Challenge attend and compete in the International Blues Competition in Memphis, TN next year.
Then, from December 1 – 5, the gallery will play host to Grayson Tourism’s Festival of Trees event.
