The Carter County Trail Town group, and Carter County Tourism, are hosting a weekend of horse riding and a “fun show” the final weekend of this month.
The Trail Riders Reunion will be held Friday and Saturday, April 29 and 30, at the Shriners Horse Show Grounds in Olive Hill. Admission is $10 a day, or $20 for a weekend armband that includes primitive camping and entry into a drawing for a cash prize.
Electrical and water hookups can be reserved for additional fees.
The event begins with the fun show on Friday and continues with a trail ride starting at 10 a.m. on Saturday followed by live music from Southern Rail.
Gates open for the Trail Riders Reunion Fun Show at Noon on Friday, with the show beginning at 5 p.m.
Categories for the Fun Show include the stick horse, ladies’ trail pleasure, open spotted saddle horse, men’s trail pleasure, open Rock Mountain, beginner rider – age 12 and under, egg & spoon, juvenile trail pleasure – age 17 and under, open mule, juvenile Rocky Mountain, go-as-you-please, lead line, open trail pleasure rack, open cart and wagon, drunkard’s paradise, Jack Benny – age 55 and older, speed racking, ladies’ trail pleasure championship, juvenile trail pleasure championship – age 17 and under, and men’s trail pleasure championship.
The event will also feature an intermission and boot race, for those age 12 and under, between the go-as-you-please and lead line competitions.
There are no entry fees for the stick horse, beginner rider, and lead line events, and all participants will receive an award. All other events have a $5 entry fee, with trophies and ribbons awarded for each, and a $50 payback to the first place entries in the final trail pleasure championship rounds for juveniles, ladies and men.
