Pam Lewis, President of Fostering Possibilities, addressed the Grayson City Council at their regular meeting on March 11, and discussed a proposed 5K charity run.
“On April 26 we are hoping to host a 5K here in town,” Lewis told the council. “So, we are requesting to close Pomeroy Street and go down by Kentucky Christian University and up the cemetery loop and back from 7 until 8:30 in the morning.”
The route would bring runners back along Lansdowne, she told the council. It would also include the Second and Third Street junctions.
Mark Smith of the Western and Southern Life Insurance Agency, located in Russell, Kentucky, also addressed the council.
“We hope to become a resource not only for the City of Grayson but also for all the small businesses in the area as well,” Smith said. “We offer a wide variety of things for small business such as group insurance and key person insurance.”
The latter, key person insurance, protects the company against the loss of an individual or individuals that are crucial to that business’ operation.
McClain Dyer from the Memory Days Committee addressed the council and invited the mayor and all the elected officials in the city to be part of the opening ceremonies for the May event.
“You are all invited to attend the opening ceremony and sit on the stage,” Dyer said. “And if you would like to have any speaking engagements, just let me know. We would be happy to accommodate that.”
Dyer told the council that he had extended invitations to representatives in Frankfort as well.
“I have heard back from Senator Webb, and she will be attending,” Dyer said. “I have also reached out to the Governor’s special advisor Rocky Adkins, and he said he would get back with me soon.”
“This year we are going to center our opening ceremonies around the honor of the holiday,” Dyer told the council.
The theme will be ‘A Walk Down Memory Lane,’ Dyer confirmed, and told the council that there would be a wide variety of merchandise and exciting events. He also said that this year during the opening ceremonies there will be a presentation honoring veterans.
An update to the city ordinance regarding mobile homes was presented to the council by City Attorney Jason Greer.
“Planning and Zoning had a meeting a week ago,” Greer told the council. “There was some suggested changes and amendments to the requirements for manufactured homes.”
Greer provided the council with copies of the proposed changes, but said the primary changes would be to the footers and roof pitches.
The changes would not affect any mobile home already set up in the city limits and would only apply to those brought into the city after the ordinance/changes were adopted. The council voted to postpone any vote until they had ample time to review the proposed changes.
Mayor Combs also discussed with the council the possibility of leasing space at the Member’s Choice Credit Union in Grayson temporarily. The lease would be for the purpose of relocating administrative city offices so that much needed renovations could be made to the current city building. Combs said that Member’s Choice was receptive to the idea, and there was a precedent of the Boyd County Clerk having offices in their Canonsburg location. The council postponed any vote until further information about the location being suitable for the needs of the city and pricing could be obtained.
