Four engineering students from Carter County Career Technical Center, Elias Sammons, Callie Lewis, Melvin Witter, and Eli Harper, have been selected to participate in the 2026 NASA Propulsion Technology Experience through the University of Kentucky Pigman College of Engineering. The students were chosen through a highly competitive selection process.
The students will travel to Huntsville, Alabama, November 5–8, 2026, where they will tour NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center and the U.S. Space & Rocket Center. They will also have the opportunity to meet University of Kentucky alumni who are prominent engineers in the aerospace industry.
Carter County Career Technical Center engineering teacher Breianna Shaffer was also selected to serve as a teacher chaperone for the experience.
The Lighthouse Beacon Foundation generously provided scholarship opportunities and fully funded the entire experience, making this valuable educational opportunity possible for the students and chaperone. The trip will allow students to explore aerospace engineering careers and gain firsthand insight into the exciting possibilities available in STEM fields.
