ECHS Band receives Distinguished rating from KMEA

GRAYSON – On Friday April 24, the East Carter High School Concert band participated in KMEA District 8 Large Ensemble Performance Assessment. For this event, the band prepares two selections and performs them for a panel of three judges. Elements that the judges are grading include tone quality, intonation, interpretation, technique, rhythm, balance, stage presence, and other factors. After performing for the judges, the band goes to another room and plays a piece of music they’ve never seen before. This sight-reading score is added to the previous three ratings, and an overall rating is awarded. Once again the Raider Band received a Distinguished rating from all four judges. This is the highest rating that can be attained. Selections performed this year were Excelsior! by James Curnow and An Irish Legend featuring a trumpet solo by Landon Newell.
The judging panel this year included Dean Marotta, David Ratliff, Ben Walker, and Chris Whelan.
The band will present their spring concert May 7, at the East Carter High School gym, at 7 p.m. The concert is free and open to the public.

The beginning and middle school bands will hold their spring concert two days prior, on May 5, at the East Carter Middle School gym, also at 7 p.m.
