OLIVE HILL, Ky. — Fall is coming to Olive Hill, and the Olive Hill Chamber of Commerce is inviting the community to celebrate at Hometown Harvest, a new fall festival planned for Saturday, Oct. 3, at The Depot.
The free, family-friendly event will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and will feature local vendors, food, shopping, entertainment and activities designed to give families a chance to enjoy the season while celebrating the community they call home.
The Chamber created Hometown Harvest to continue the spirit of Olive Hill’s longstanding fall tradition while bringing some new ideas to the event.
“When it was announced that ‘It’s Fall Y’all’ was cancelled, we knew how much that event and tradition had meant to our community over the years. We didn’t want to see that fall tradition simply disappear, so the Chamber decided to step in and continue the spirit of bringing our community together while adding a little Chamber flare of our own,” said Crystal Branham, president of the Olive Hill Chamber of Commerce.
She added, “Hometown Harvest gives us the opportunity to build on what people already loved about having a community fall event while introducing some new activities and ideas. Our goal is to create something that feels familiar, fun, and community-centered, but that can also grow and develop into a tradition of its own for Olive Hill.”
Families will have plenty of opportunities to participate throughout the day, including pumpkin painting, a Halloween costume contest for elementary-age children and a decorated pumpkin contest.
Participants in the decorated pumpkin contest should bring their pumpkins pre-carved or pre-painted.
The Olive Hill Fire Department will also sponsor a ‘pumpkin drop’, while the woodcarvers who participated in Olive Hill’s July 4th event will return to demonstrate their chainsaw art and carving skills.
Entertainment will be provided throughout the day by DJ JD Rayburn, adding music and energy to the festival.
In addition to the activities, Hometown Harvest will provide an opportunity for residents and visitors to support local vendors and organizations while spending the day in Olive Hill.
“More than anything, we hope people leave having made some good memories,” Branham said. “Events like Hometown Harvest are about giving our community a reason to come together, visit with neighbors, support local vendors and organizations, and let the kids have fun. We also hope it gives people another reason to spend the day in Olive Hill and see some of the great things happening in our community.”
Vendor space is still available, and the Chamber encourages interested vendors to register as soon as possible.
Organizers have received significant interest in the event and are working to accommodate as many vendors as reasonably possible.
