Two Carter County Farms Named “Legacy Farms” by Kentucky Farm Bureau Federation

GRAYSON, KY (Sept. 28, 2026) — Carter County Farm Bureau recently announced that Seagraves/Sturgill Farm and Wells Family Farm have each been named a “Legacy Farm” by Kentucky Farm Bureau (KFB). Seagraves/Sturgill Farm and Wells Family Farm were recognized as Legacy Farms for their long-standing commitment to farming, contributions to the local community, and involvement in KFB.

KFB’s Legacy Farm designation is awarded to farmers who have demonstrated a commitment to agriculture and the strengthening of rural communities. County Farm Bureaus across the state can nominate three local farms for the honor each year.

Seagraves/Sturgill Farm, located in Grayson, has been active in production agriculture for 86 years. Today, the farm is run by Henry Sturgill. It raises corn, tobacco, Hampshire hogs, hay, chickens and garden produce.

Wells Family Farm, located in Grayson, has been active in production agriculture for 110 years. Today, the farm is run by Clifford and Heather Wells. It raises beef cattle, tobacco, silage corn, hay, straw, fodder, garden vegetables, flowers, wildflowers, pumpkins, mums and gourds.

“Kentucky Farm Bureau is proud to recognize the history, perseverance and hard work of our commonwealth’s farm families,” said Eddie Melton, KFB President. “We’re grateful for everything Seagraves/Sturgill Farm and Wells Family Farm contribute to their community and to Kentucky agriculture, and we’re pleased to honor the generations of dedication that earned them this recognition.”
