James Gary “Peck” Kitchen, age 77, of Grayson, Kentucky, passed away Tuesday, June 18, 2024, at Sanctuary of Ohio in Ironton, Ohio.
He was born Friday, January 17, 1947, in Carter County, Kentucky, a son of the late James Logan and Elizabeth McDavid Kitchen.
“Peck” served as a Carter County Deputy from 1978 thru 1986 and was an employee with Carter County Road Maintenance Department for 27 years. He worked many years as a mechanic for Blevins Sunoco, Stumbo’s Exxon and Kitchen’s Service Station and also spent time driving a coal truck. He enjoyed the outdoors, gardening, doing mechanic work, watching movies and spending time with his family.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Joseph D. “Joe” Kitchen; one sister, Joyce Kitchen.
He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Mary Fraley Kitchen; one son, Gary Kristopher (Tracey) Kitchen of Ashland, Kentucky; two daughters, Andrea Jolene (Anthony) Maggard of Greenup, Kentucky, Samantha Lane Kitchen of Ironton, Ohio; five grandchildren, Adrianna Kitchen, Lauren Kitchen, Jalen Kitchen, Liam Kitchen, Maddix Kitchen; two great-grandchildren, Alexa Elmore, Anthony Quintana; one sister Arbutus Blevins of Grayson, Kentucky; along with many other family and friends that will sadly miss him.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m., Saturday, June 22, 2024, at Grayson Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 49 McCoy Road, Grayson, Kentucky with Brother Steven Keyes officiating. Burial will follow in East Carter Memory Gardens in Grayson, Kentucky.
Friends may visit from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m., Friday, June 21, 2024, and after 9 a.m., Saturday, June 22, 2024, until the service hour at Grayson Funeral Home and Cremation Services.
Roger Kitchen, Mike Kitchen, Jeff Kitchen, Darin Blevins, Derek Blevins and Anthony Maggard will serve as pallbearers.
