The Carter County Fiscal Court met at its regularly scheduled meeting on February 12 with all magistrates in attendance. Much of the meeting focused on plans for the addition and removal of various roads from the county road system. Removing a road from the county road system also removes the county’s responsibility for maintenance of those roads.

The court voted to stop maintenance to Davy Hill Road, removing it from the county road system, and possibly converting another private road to the county system. A request was made by a local resident of that area for the county to take over responsibility for Jensen Lane, which until recently had been maintained by the families that resided along that road. The court decided that at least two commissioners would visit the road in question and assess the possibilities and costs. The court also voted to begin the process to bring both Hornet Lane and Garden Lane into the county maintenance schedule.

In other business the court voted to appoint Gordon Womack to the Big Sandy Water District Board, and maintain the salaries of Rattlesnake Ridge Board of Commissioners at $6,000 each. The court also voted to approve Resolution 427 (Genesis Grant), Resolution 428 (Jail Arraignment Equipment Grant Resolution), and accepted the Sheriff’s Fourth Quarter and Annual Budget. The Treasurer’s Report was also accepted as were Claims and Transfers, and Ordinance 860 (First Reading of the Budget) was also accepted. Other Department reports were heard by the court and the minutes of the meeting were accepted as well.

An Executive Session was not held at the February meeting.
