Allan Quinn Johnson, age 51 of Soldier, KY, buckled his seat belt and took the fast lane to Heaven on Sunday, October 22, 2023 at 1:45 pm. He had several good days at the end before things went downhill with his health, but the lord was merciful with his last moments and he passed on peacefully and quietly in his sleep that afternoon.
Allan was born March 25th, 1972 in Morehead, KY the son of late Hugh Johnson Sr. and the late Carolyn Ann Johnson both of Soldier, Kentucky. He was the youngest of 4 siblings, the baby of the family, so he alternated between getting pampered and dressed up by his two older sisters and being put in head locks and smashed under the covers by his older brother.
In early grade school all his teachers raved about how quick a study he was, how he was always smiling, and how well he made friends. An old stack of report cards from his elementary school days reveal some evidence, “Allan is doing very good work, he made the honor roll, keep up the good work Allan” Mr. Holbrook 2nd Grade, “Allan is a good student, He has excellent study habits, a nice boy that I have enjoyed working with this year” Mrs. Thompson 4th grade.
Allan was involved in sports in elementary school, but he took more to motorcycles, go-carts and just about anything with a motor. He spent most of his time around the house with his Papaw Frank Johnson who took him under his wing and made sure he always had the latest and greatest of just about anything he wanted to ride or drive. Papaw was accommodating, but the rule was, if you break it you fix it. Which… Allan did break things… Often! But he was quick to grab a tool or a wrench of some kind and start taking things apart regardless of the outcome. All-in-all he became a very handy mechanic and he was able to repair just about anything and make it run again.
Allan migrated more towards the trade’s world in his teens rather than school. He was more interested in how things worked instead of the theory, he had to see it running being built for it to be worthy of his attention. As a result, he became one of the best concrete finishers in this part of the country and was involved with all the major players in the field of concrete construction from Ashland to Lexington for the rest of his working career. He always had a hot car or truck he was building on, had some of the best one liner’s and quick-witted jokes and sense of humor of anyone you would ever meet. In fact, many of his family and buddies would say he missed his calling and he could have been a stand-up comedian and made millions. He really was that funny and he held that sense of humor all the way to the end leaving the nurses and care givers in stitches.
Allan was not much of a church goer; in fact, he ran with a pretty hard bunch for most of his life. But that bunch, as hard as they lived, would come to your aid in a snap if anyone they knew was in a jam or especially anytime someone reached out for help on a tough construction project. Allan and his crew were there and took a lot pride in his work and getting the job done when no one thought it could be done. Allan was saved and accepted Jesus Christ as his savior in the Winter of 2023 while in the hospital at University of Kentucky during a visit from an old friend. He made amends and apologies to whoever he could reach and tried to the best of his ability to finish his life with dignity and respect.
Allan is survived by two sisters; Bobby Lynn Bowen (Johnson) of Lancaster, KY; Theressa Lynn Johnson of Soldier, KY. Two brothers, Hugh Johnson of Lancaster, KY; Jack Roe of Sandy Hook, KY. Three nephews; Ryan Rayburn of Sandy Hook, KY; Garrad Johnson of Fairview, TN; Jacob Allan Johnson of Franklin, TN. And two nieces; Kia Rayburn of Harrodsburg, KY; and Andrea Classen of Danville, KY; and one Great Nephew Walker Adkins Johnson of Fairview, TN, As well as a slew of good friends and work associates from over the years who will all miss him dearly.
