Joyce Stapleton, age 85, of Olive Hill, KY went home to be with the Lord Tuesday afternoon, October 24th, 2023, at Compassionate Care Hospice Center in Richmond, KY.
She was born November 30th, 1937, in Harlan, KY, daughter of the late Lester and Maggie Williams.
At the age of 20 years old, Joyce and her husband Bob moved to Dayton, Ohio where they raised their family and attended Christian Tabernacle for 25 years. Joyce worked at McCalls in Dayton, as well as a Day Care Center. She also volunteered for Pioneer girls, sang in the choir, taught Sunday School and was actively involved in their church.
In the early 70’s, they purchased a home in Corinth, KY on the Lake. They enjoyed weekends there for several years then moved there permanently in the early 80’s.
Her role as the Pastor’s wife began in 1974 at Omar Baptist Church in Dayton, Ohio, and then at Sadieville Baptist in Sadieville, KY.
In the early 90’s they moved to Olive Hill, KY where they would live the remainder of their lives.
Joyce spent 45 years in ministry with her husband Bob. Together they founded New Life Victory Church in Olive Hill, KY. They both loved serving the people in Olive Hill, and always felt that God had brought them there. She loved supporting missionaries across the world and was always involved in various children’s ministries such as Project Merry Christmas for the children of Carter County, the Gideon’s, the Holy Rollers Motorcycle Ministries for children, as well as supporting the homeless children in NYC.
One of the things she enjoyed most was hosting the annual Cousins weekend at her home for 10 years. Four generations of mothers, daughters, sisters, cousins, nieces, and their children would gather from all across the county to hang out at Mamaw’s house. Those memories will live forever in the hearts of her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Bob Stapleton, two grandchildren, Hannah Stapleton and Matthew Stapleton, one brother, Danny Williams, and one sister, Carolyn Langford.
