Mitzi Ann Gearhart Jones, age 85, of Olive Hill, Kentucky, passed away Monday, July 21, 2025, at UK-King’s Daughter Medical Center in Ashland, Kentucky, surrounded by her girls.
She was born Sunday, March 10, 1940, in Carter County, Kentucky, a daughter of the late John and Thelma Garvin Gearhart.
Above being the purest of heart, Mitzi was a Kentucky Colonel and loved working the voting booths. Her work ethic was extraordinary. She was employed with Kmart for 51 years, in which, she made some very special friends she still held dear to this day.
Her dogs, Speedo and Bridge (hence the name where he was found) gave her companionship and joy.
Mitzi’s grandchildren and great-grand babies were her most enjoyment in life. Spoiling was expected and how many “I Love You’s” could be spoken in a sentence was too.
Ron and Mitzi attended numerous car shows that took them to many places and sunburns. She loved riding the bike with her husband.
Mitzi read her Bible daily. Her belief in God gave her strength and compassion for others. Stories arise often of how she gave, called and prayed for many families. She left a great impact on many people. Kim and Kandi couldn’t have been loved anymore.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 50 years, Ronald Jones; one brother, Van Gearhart; one sister, Edith Mae “Patsy” Cooper and her son-in-law, Joel Hargett.
Mitzi is survived by two daughters, Kim Hargett of Olive Hill, Kentucky, Kandi LaRon (David) Carpenter of Marysville, Ohio; 5 grandchildren, Kelli Hargett (Kurt Taylor), Zachary Hargett, Andrew Hargett, Aaron Carpenter, and Matthew Carpenter; 3 great-grandchildren, Mia Koel, Lilith Ann, Sagan Bowie, along with many other family and friends who will sadly miss her.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m., Thursday, July 24, 2025, at Globe Funeral Chapel, 17277 West US Hwy 60, Olive Hill, Kentucky, with Brother John Lands and Brother Terry Dean officiating. Burial will follow in the Jones Cemetery, Olive Hill, Kentucky.
Friends may visit after 11:30 a.m., Thursday, July 24, 2025, until the service hour at Globe Funeral Chapel.
David Carpenter, Aaron Carpenter, Matthew Carpenter, Zachary Hargett, Andrew Hargett and Kurt Taylor will serve as pallbearers.
