Mr. Raymond “John” Smith, age 88, of Lucas, Ohio, formerly of Smith Creek, in Carter County, Kentucky, passed away December 25, 2023, at Avita Hospital in Ontario, Ohio after a short illness.
He was born May 26, 1935, in Carter County, Kentucky, a son of the late Everett and Della Wolfe Smith.
John loved taking care of his acre garden, raising chickens, reading, going to auctions and spending time with his family.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Wilford Smith, Richard Smith and Chris Smith; one sister Ruth Rittenhouse; his best friend, his dog Max.
He is survived by two brothers, Norman (Paulette) Smith of Carter City, Kentucky, Kenneth (Linda) Smith of Mansfield, Ohio; one sister, Alma Withrow of Grayson, Kentucky; one special nephew, Rick Smith along with many numerous nieces and nephews; a special friend, Bob Edwards, who thought of him as his grandfather, along with many other family and friends who will sadly miss him.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m., Saturday, December 30, 2023, at Grayson Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 49 McCoy Road, Grayson, Kentucky with Brother Jerry Jordan officiating. Burial will follow in the Boone Cemetery in Carter City.
Friends may visit after 12 noon, Saturday, December 30, 2023, until the service hour at Grayson Funeral Home.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
