Shonda Lynn Phillabaum, 41, passed away on Friday, November 24, at 5:51 at King’s Daughters Medical Center.

She was born September 24, 1982, in Colorado Springs, Colorado, Shonda grew up and lived in Carter City, Kentucky. Her love for her friends and family had no bounds, and this love poured into everything she did. She spent her career as a beloved staff member at Prichard Elementary, being a beacon of light for the students who came through her door and those who worked with her. Shonda loved working with the children, their families, and her Prichard family. She will always be known as Mrs. Shonda to the hundreds of children she impacted. Shonda was also a proud double alumnus of Morehead State University, where she earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in education.

Shonda is survived by her husband, Michael Phillabaum, and her two sons, Trey and James Phillabaum. She is also survived by her father and mother, Michael A. and Rhonda Ash; her younger sister and brother, Elizabeth and Michael B. Ash; her paternal grandparents, Lynn and Jeannie Ash; and several aunts, uncles, cousins, and beloved friends. Her maternal grandparents, Winford and Betty McGlone, preceded her in death.

Services will be held at Grayson Funeral Home (49 McCoy Rd. Grayson, KY 41143) on Thursday, November 30, 2023. Immediate family will be at 9:00 a.m., with friends and community welcomed at 9:30 a.m. The funeral will follow at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at the McGlone Creek Cemetery (St. Rt. 182, McGlone Creek, Olive Hill).

Shonda’s family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
