East Carter wins against Morgan County: COVID continues to impact baseball

By Jeremy D. Wells

Carter County Times

The East Carter Raiders have been impacted a little by COVID-19 this baseball season. They’ve had four games canceled per the COVID policy – two against West Carter and two against Elliott County – but otherwise they’ve had a good season largely unimpacted by the virus. The team has seven wins and two losses, their most recent a 10-2 win on Monday against Morgan County. Their season also includes two shut-outs – a five inning 11-0 victory over Lewis County and five inning 13-0 win against Meniffee County.

West Carter hasn’t been so lucky. They’ve only played three games, with a single win against Wolfe County in a six inning 10-0 shutout, and losses to Fairview and Bath County. But the team hasn’t been able to see if they could bounce back from those losses. Their last eleven scheduled games have all been canceled due to the COVID cancellation policy.

There is still time to get some games in. They have repeat matches against many of the schools scheduled through the end of next month – and a busy schedule of play between now and then if they don’t run into more cancellations – but they could still have a season.

West Carter is currently ranked 12 out of 16 in the 16th Region for win-loss records, with an RPI of .40911.

East Carter is ranked second, with an RPI of .63260, just behind Region 16 leader Rowan County, with an RPI of .63314 on a win-loss of 12-2.
