Grayson Batcats Blue win 9U World Series Championship

Grayson based team includes members from across region

The 9U Grayson Batcats Blue went 6-1 to win the World Series Championship in Myrtle Beach. The Batcats coached by Derrick Jordan are based out of Grayson, Ky but include team members from Carter County, Boyd County, Paintsville, Russell, Prichard, WV, and Scioto County, OH.
Their outstanding 3-1 pool play record earned them the number one seed. In tournament play in the quarterfinals the Batcats made the Seacoast Pirates walk the plank with a 14-1 rout over the team from New Hampshire.
Next up in the semifinals, they played the heavy-hitting Chicago Heat but came away with a 9-4 win behind some great defense in clutch situations.
In the championship game the Batcats faced Team Elite from Philadelphia, PA and stared down a first inning deficit giving up three runs in the first. Then the Batcats’ pitching and defense stepped up, refusing to give up a run the rest of the game. The Bats also took off as they managed one run in each of the second and third innings, then scored three more runs in the fourth inning to take the lead for good. The Batcats exploded for six more runs in the fifth to lock up a convincing 11-3 win and secure the Youth World Series championship vs the big city team!
Team members are Roman Jordan, Knox Sexton, Kash Walker, Wyatt Williams all from Carter County. Blake Biggs, Colby Seasor, Cash Williams from Boyd. Grayson Merrill, and Greyson Hollar from Scioto County, OH, Beau Beckley from Prichard, WV, Braylen Hammond from Paintsville, and Colt Vanover from Russell. Coaches are Derrick Jordan, Jarred Seasor, Virgil Vanover, and Chris Williams.
The team amassed an amazing 52-7-1 record on the season winning 10 total championships including the West Virginia state title and the Youth World Series Championship. The team was ranked the No.1 AAA in team points by USSSA rankings in Kentucky and No.3 in team power rankings by USSSA in Kentucky.
