The East Carter Raiders fell to Lexington Catholic last Friday night in the second round of the Class 3A playoffs, putting an end to the Raiders’ season. The Raiders, while putting up a strong fight, just could not hold the Knights offense down as they went on to a decisive 42-7 victory.
The Knights started the game receiving kickoff and scoring within the first minute. However, the Raiders were not going to let that bring them down. Quarterback Quentin Johnson led the Raiders offense on a 9 minute long drive to come back and tie the score 7-7.
The Knights offense came back, however, and plowed through the Raiders defense scoring another touchdown before the quarter ended, making it 14-7. The Raiders took the return back to their own 27 yard line ending the first quarter.
After that, the night belonged to Lexington Catholic.
The Knights defense was strong all night, holding the Raiders offense off on their drive forcing the Raiders to punt the ball. However, the Raider’s defense did not give up so easily, and were able to force the Knights to turn over the ball at the goal line.
The Raiders were then able to push forward with #20 Landon Yoak carrying the ball to a first down. However, the Raiders were forced to punt the ball on a turnover of downs. This led to Lexington Catholic running in for another touchdown taking the score to 21-7 leading into halftime.
The Raiders came back out at the half receiving the kickoff and trying to make a comeback but the Knights defense wasn’t going to let them have it. Johnson threw an interception leading to a touchdown for the Knights making the score 28-7. The Knights would score another touchdown in the third quarter making it 35-7.
With one quarter left, the Raiders tried to put up a fight, with Yoak running for two first downs in a row, but ultimately the Raiders would turn the ball over on downs. This gave the Knights another chance to score which they capitalized on taking the score to 42-7.
The Raiders tried to narrow the gap, and were able to get up the field with Yoak and #22 Gerrit Bellew carrying for first downs. Ryland Pfau, #16, also picked up a first down before the Knights caught another interception.
This gave the Knights the ball back as the clock winded down giving them a 42-7 win and ending the Raiders season. The Raiders end the season with a 7-5 record.
