The West Carter fifth and sixth grade team came out on top this past weekend, with a 50–12 win over Bath County in the first round of the Second Annual Mike Flannery Bowl, and a 20–0 win over Rowan County to emerge as champions.

In their first matchup against Bath County the West team racked up 24 points on rushing touchdowns from Jordan Barker, Kyler Brasington, Grant Richards, and Jace Henderson. Kobe Stamper added two more receiving touchdowns to that total, and Easton Kitchen another passing touchdown, on passes from Richards, with one passing TD, and Brasington passing for two touchdowns.
Brasington, Barker, Gabriel Davis, and Lucas Tackett added another eight points to the score on two point conversions in the team’s first round win.
In the championship round the West Carter team shut Rowan County out, 20–0, in a rushing game that saw Brasington score a pair of touchdowns, Barker with one TD, and Henderson rounding the score up to 20 on a two-point conversion.
Rooster Jordan was awarded the bowl MVP recognition, with a total of 25 tackles and 10 tackles for loss.
