Live music, inflatables, vendors, and food trucks are coming to downtown Grayson this Friday as part of tourism’s Block Party. The event is sponsored by Grayson Tourism, and Tourism Director Lana Axtell said that the Block Party is less a fundraiser and more a fun time.
“We want everyone to have something to do in downtown Grayson and just get out and enjoy the weather and have a good time,” Axtell explained.
Pomeroy Street and the alley behind the Blue Goose on Main Street will be blocked off for the event, Axtell said. The Blue Goose itself will be filled with vendors from around the area selling a variety of items of interest, and food trucks will be on hand for block partiers to enjoy food and refreshment. There will also be a cruise in car show with a wide range of vehicles for everyone to check out, and perhaps see old favorites or discover new ones.
Grayson Tourism is sponsoring the event, but Axtell said that she would love nothing more than to tie in all the assorted groups in the Grayson area, and have them become a regular fixture in Main Street events. These kinds of partnerships, she said, could help bring a constant influx of people into Grayson.
“That’s what tourism is,” Axtell said. “Bringing people to our town and enjoying what we have to offer.”
The Stuff the Ambulance Event, sponsored by Carter County EMS, will also kick off at the Block Party. That event is a donation event where people bring in much needed school supplies to help Carter County students when they return to school for the 2024-2025 school year. For more information on that event, which runs from June 7 through July 7, visit the Carter County EMS on social media or contact paramedic Carlie Dalton via email at carlie.dalton@carterems.net or by telephone at 606-748-0471.
The live music at the event is being sponsored by The Dugout, a new restaurant that will be opening soon in the Grayson area. The band playing will be the Ashton Duncan Band out of Ironton, Ohio with Levi Fields as the opening act.
“There is just going to be all sorts of really cool stuff at the Block Party,” Axtell said. “And I think everyone is really going to enjoy it.”
Axtell said that Grayson Tourism is planning three Block Party events this year, or basically one per month over the course of the summer. The exception is that no Block Party is planned for July because Tres Hermanos will be hosting a Fourth of July event with fireworks and everything else residents have come to expect.
“There is a lot going on this month,” Axtell said. “And we are looking forward to giving the community a month where there is always something for everyone to enjoy.”
