Sandy Hook isn’t too far of a drive from Grayson or Olive Hill, but it might not be the first place you think of when you think of an evening out.
At least one venue in “the Hook” is working to change that perception, though.
The Side Hustle, located at 157 Main Street, has a number of events scheduled for the coming month, including a regular series of musical performances.
The next event on their calendar, though, is a comedy show.
On Friday, June 2, the venue will play host to a line-up including Q Smoke, Tim Northern, and Jay Wall aka “the Jerk.” The event, which kicks off at 7:30 that evening, is hosted by Louisville based comedian Mr. Bikey. And, if you have an interest in trying out your own comedic chops, and brave enough to follow the features, it includes an open mic to close out the show.
The following Saturday, June 3, the venue will host a car show – a warm up to their planned June 17 motorcycle show – with both kicking off at 10 a.m. But the thing that’s putting the Side Hustle on the map, and making them stand out from other vape shops in the region, are their music shows. They’ve been hosting singer/songwriter open mic nights for several months now, but in June they’ve got a few shows lined up with regional talent.
On Thursday, June 8, they have Corduroy Brown, Justin Ratcliff, and Billy Stegall on the bill. On June 22 it’s Kolby Swinney and Tristan Frazier of Bedford Band, along with Stephen Collins. Doors open on both nights at 7 p.m. with Moonlight Mile’s Jonathan Pennington serving as host and emcee.
In addition, on June 17, the evening after the motorcycle show, the venue will host Kelsey Lynn’s Toxicity Tour, with special guest Rich Regal.
There are several other events planned in the community throughout the summer, including the Elliott County Fiddler’s Convention July 7 – 8, Minnie Adkins Day on July 15, and the Labor Day Weekend Tobacco Festival.
