Old Book Lady: Summer reading program wraps

By Diane Wingert

For the Carter County Times

Our Summer Reading Program was a great success this year; thanks in large part to the collaboration of several different agencies and partners. We would like to thank everyone that attended one or all of our programs. We had nine separate programs, and “visited” eight different countries starting in the USA.

We want to thank everyone that helped to make the Summer Reading Program the success it was. If I forget anyone, know that it is not on purpose, a big thank you goes to you too. Thank you to; OHES-Operation Care Family Resource Center, Prichard Family Resource Center, Kentucky Christian University KCU, Friends of the Library, My House of Horror, Zornes Home Improvement, Carter Caves State Resort Park, 4H, KYNECT, Donna Church, Northeast Headstart, Ann Colbert and Band, Cory Claxon, Olive Hill Center for Arts and Heritage, Carter County Schools Child Nutrition Services, and U.S. Corps of Engineers.

With all the help from everyone that came to our events and helped, it made all our events better. Collaboration is a big focus on our part. The more people who help and get the word out about our services and others’ services, the better for everyone.

I have to send a special thank you to my daughter, Nancy Jane King for all the planning and organizing she has done this year. Also, to Julia King and Wylie King for the exceptional help they provided, picking up lunches, serving, and just pitching in wherever possible. It takes a lot of people to make everything come off without a lot of problems. And everyone did that this year.

We’re looking forward to next year. I am going to go ahead and invite all our parents and children to attend again next year for even more fun!

The library is here for you!

If you need help and do not know where to go, come to the library. We are here to help. If we do not

know where to send you, we will find out. Depend on your public libraries, Grayson and Olive Hill, to help you through whatever needs you may have.

Book Giveaway

On August 10, at 10 a.m., we will be having an entirely free book giveaway. We are partnering with Donna Church and the Olive Hill Center for Arts and Heritage to bring our community lots of books and clothes for free. There may be different items available, but you have to come to the gym at the Olive Hill Center for Arts and Heritage to find out.

Check our website, Carter County Public Library, cartercountypubliclibrary.com, and our Facebook page to find out what events are scheduled for August. We post a calendar of events each month to keep you informed. Come by the library to check out books, attend one of our events, or just to visit with us!
