West Carter Family Resource Center hosts back-to-school event

Staff Report
Carter County Times

The Family Resource Center at Olive Hill Elementary will be hosting a Fall Kick Off Back-to-School event for students enrolled at Olive Hill, Tygart Creek, and Carter City Elementary schools, as well as West Carter Middle and High schools, on August 1, from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. in the Olive Hill Elementary School gymnasium.

Donna Stamper, coordinator for the Operation Care Family Resource Center, said they are inviting community organizations and individuals to set up a table to distribute information and give out school supplies, hygiene items, and more.

Stamper said she has a limited number of four-foot tables, or participants may bring their own.

Those who would like to support children and families, but aren’t able to attend the event, may also drop off donated items – for example, water bottles for students – or give a monetary donation.

In addition to school supplies and hygiene kits, they plan to distribute clothing, backpacks, and other items to those in need.

Duncan’s Barbershop and Retro Salon will also be on hand, providing free haircuts from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m.

In addition, Stamper said, the PTO will have “fun activities” set up for children and families.

Anyone wishing to make a donation of school supplies or cash may contact Stamper at Olive Hill Elementary, by calling (606)474-6696 extension 23040.
